Canada Bathroom Vanity Sizes: Nominal Inches and Exact Millimetres

Canadian product programs often use inch classes in merchandising and metric dimensions in technical files. Keep both, but never turn a rounded conversion into an exact product claim. The cabinet, countertop, basin, mounting and plumbing drawings must describe the selected SKU.

Use dual units without creating a false equivalence

Merchandising classApproximate metric referenceApproval point
24 inabout 610 mmConfirm actual cabinet and top width
30 inabout 762 mmConfirm basin, storage and wall clearance
36 inabout 914 mmDo not describe 900 mm as exactly 36 in
48 inabout 1219 mmConfirm whether 1200 mm is a class or actual width

Approximate conversions help buyers navigate a range. The drawing should carry the manufacturing dimension and tolerance in the controlled unit system.

Five dimensions that determine fit

  1. Finished width: cabinet, countertop and basin can differ.
  2. Depth: include top, handle and open drawer or door projection.
  3. Finished height: distinguish cabinet, countertop and vessel-basin height.
  4. Plumbing zone: overlay the waste, trap and shutoffs on the internal layout.
  5. Mounting: record wall construction, reinforcement, hardware and responsibility.

For multi-unit programs, approve one coordinated drawing and sample before repeating the configuration. Record any site variants rather than leaving installers to solve them room by room.

Model references with explicit dimensions

Canadian RFQ inputs

  2. Nominal inch class plus exact metric dimensions and tolerances.

  4. Actual panel material and finish for the selected model.
  5. Quebec and other language-content requirements for the exact channel.

  7. Sample, artwork, labels, spares and delivery plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 900 mm vanity be called 36 inches?

It may sit in a 36-inch merchandising class, but 900 mm is about 35.4 inches. Publish the actual finished dimension prominently and consistently.

Do all Canadian markets use the same product and language requirements?

No. The province or territory, Quebec scope, channel and product configuration can change the required review. Confirm them before artwork and documentation approval.
