Define the programme first

OEM, ODM and private label are different levels of work

The useful question is not which acronym appears on a quotation. It is which elements are already proven, which elements will change and what evidence will authorize production.

Private label
An existing product platform is presented under the buyer's brand with agreed model selection, finishes, artwork and packaging.
OEM programme
An existing platform is adapted to a controlled buyer specification. Changes may include dimensions, finish, hardware, features or packaging when feasibility is confirmed.
ODM development
A broader design or performance brief is translated into a manufacturable solution. Tooling, testing, cost and timing are assessed before the scope is accepted.
A decision-ready RFQ

The buyer brief determines what can be assessed

A clear brief reduces speculative pricing and prevents artwork or engineering work from starting against an unstable target.

01

Commercial context

Destination country, sales channel, target segment, initial quantity, forecast and required delivery window.

02

Product target

Reference model, dimensions, construction, finish direction, required functions and non-negotiable exclusions.

03

Brand scope

Logo files, colour references, product labels, manuals, warranty language, carton artwork and barcode requirements.

04

Market evidence

Importer, consultant or testing-body checklist for the exact product and destination—not a generic certification request.

Controlled development path

Seven gates from range brief to repeat order

Each gate closes a defined group of decisions. Production release follows written approval of the commercial and technical baseline.

  1. 01

    Qualify the brief

Confirm buyer type, market, product family, quantity range, target timing and required deliverables.

  2. 02

    Review feasibility

Assess the reference platform, proposed changes, likely manufacturing route, commercial assumptions and open risks.

  3. 03

    Align drawings and specifications

Record dimensions, materials, components, finishes, functions, interfaces and tolerances in buyer-reviewable documents.

  4. 04

    Develop and review samples

Check appearance, operation, fit, workmanship and packaging against an agreed approval checklist.

  5. 05

    Freeze the approved baseline

Assign revision references to the sample, drawing, specification, artwork and packaging instructions.

  6. 06

    Release and verify the order

Apply agreed incoming, in-process or pre-shipment checks and document deviations against the frozen baseline.

  7. 07

    Maintain the repeat-order record

Use the approved model code and revision, then review any material, component or packaging change before the next release.

The programme file

Documents should show what was approved—and what was not

Deliverables are scoped by product and order. A practical control file may include the following records when relevant.

RecordWhat it controlsApproval point
Product specificationConstruction, material, component, finish, feature and exclusionsBefore sample or quotation freeze
Drawing and revisionDimensions, interfaces, mounting and service clearancesBefore tooling or production release
Sample registerPhysical reference, finish sample and approved deviationsBefore bulk order release
Artwork registerLabels, manuals, barcodes, carton marks and language versionsBefore printing
Quality planCheckpoints, sampling basis, acceptance criteria and reportingBefore production
Packing instructionProtection, accessories, carton identification and pallet rulesBefore packing begins
Revision control

A sample freeze is a change-control boundary

After approval, a requested change can affect tooling, component availability, unit cost, testing, packaging and delivery. It should be evaluated before it is accepted—not passed through an informal message.

  • Identify the requestRecord the model, current revision, requested change and reason.
  • Assess the impactReview feasibility, price, sample status, documentation and schedule.
  • Approve a new revisionUpdate the affected drawing, specification, sample or artwork reference.
  • Protect repeat ordersDo not substitute a material or component silently under an existing approved code.
Claims require model-level evidence

Compliance, capability and quality are verified for the selected programme

A document for one model, voltage, component set or supplier does not automatically apply to another. ArcQuay can coordinate available-document review and agreed production checks, but the buyer or its appointed specialist remains responsible for confirming destination-market obligations.

Where supplier capability is important, the review scope can include a live video walkthrough, an arranged visit, production-process evidence or a third-party inspection. The method and deliverables should be agreed before the order.

Buyer questions

OEM programme FAQ

Can ArcQuay place our logo on any catalogue product?

Branding feasibility depends on the model, surface, manufacturing method, order quantity and artwork. The proposed position and method should be sampled or otherwise approved before production.

What is the minimum order quantity?

There is no responsible site-wide answer. Minimums vary by product platform, finish, component, packaging scope and manufacturing route. Share the target quantity so the relevant option can be assessed.

Does an approved sample guarantee every unit will be identical?

The sample establishes a reference, not a promise of zero variation. Material behaviour, tolerances and acceptance criteria should be documented, then applied through an agreed inspection plan.

Can one OEM programme combine several bathroom categories?

Yes, when the brief, model codes, finishes, packaging and timing are coordinated by category. Technical documents and compliance evidence still remain model-specific.

Who confirms certifications for our destination market?

ArcQuay can identify and share available model-level documents. The buyer, importer or appointed consultant should confirm which standards, registrations and labels legally apply before order release.
